Health Information Technology
A Career in Health Information Management (HIM)
HIM professionals can expect to be in high demand as the health sector expands into the next century. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics cites health information technology as one of the 20 fastest growing occupations in the US.
On top of strong job prospects, competitive salaries also await graduates. More than half of new graduates with an Associate's degree start with salaries in the $20,000 to $30,000 range. By five years out, one can earn upwards of $50,000 - $75,000 annually (with a Bachelor's degree). In the 2010-2011 academic year, there were 12 graduates in the HIT program, out of a total of 66 students that year, for a degree production rate of 18% for the program.
You can also gain further information on the different areas of employment within health information technology from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) by viewing their career video.
