The Editor's Prize contest for the 2007 issue of MO has been cancelled. All entry fees are being returned and, unless otherwise specified by individual writers, contest entries will be considered automatically for publication in the upcoming issue, Winter, 2007.

MO Prize for Poetry

MO Prize for Short Fiction

$500.00

One winning poem and one winning short story will each be awarded $500 and two runners-up in each category will be announced.  Winning entries and selected finalists will be published in the 2007 issue.  Entries must be unpublished and will not be returned.

Judges for 2007 issue Editors Choice Contest

Short Fiction: A four time winner of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award, Pete Fromm is the author of five story collections, the memoir Indian Creek Chronicles, and most recently, the novels, How All This Started, and As Cool As I Am.  He lives with his family in Great Falls, MT.

Poetry: Jill Alexander Essbaum is the author of the 1999 Bakeless Prize winner in poetry, Heaven (UPNE, 2000), and the 2005 collection of sonnets, Oh Forbidden (Pecan Grove Press). She has published in journals both religious and secular, both domestic and foreign, including The Christian Century, No Tell Motel, 32 Poems, MiPOesias, Rhino, Image, and Poetry. A former Michener Fellow at the University of Texas and recipient of an NEA literature grant, Jill lives outside of Zürich, Switzerland.

Guidelines

Poetry:  Two copies of up to 5 unpublished poems, maximum 12 pages total.
Short Fiction:  Two copies of one unpublished story, not to exceed 3,000 words.

All:  Name, address, phone number/email of writer should appear on each page of one copy only.  Include SASE for contest results.

Entry fee:  $12.00 (checks payable to Montana State University Great Falls/MO).  Each entry fee includes a one year subscription to MO:  Writings from the River.

Submit to:  MO:  Writings from the River, Editors’ Prize, Dr. Frederick Bridger, MSU Great Falls, 2100 16th Av. South, Great Falls, MT  59405.  Electronic submissions for Editors Prize contest not accepted; entry fee must accompany entry.

Contest Deadline:  The deadline for submissions to the 2007 Editors Prize contest and for regular submittions has been extended until 30 November, 2006.

Entries that do not follow guidelines will be disqualified.  Finalists will be asked to submit electronic copies of their work.
