Dear adjunct faculty,
It is important for you to know that we have made several changes regarding Letters of Appointment for spring 2009, in relation to your course assignments. These changes will help us make our course scheduling process better. For instance, you may notice that you will receive your letter of appointment much earlier than usual.
You will also notice that the letter has a date printed on it by which you must sign and return the letter to Heather Palermo (Assistant to the Dean at MSU – Great Falls College of Technology). Please know it is essential that you sign and return the letter to her (or that you notify your Division if you will be unable to fulfill that appointment) by the date printed on the Letter of Appointment. If you do not sign and return the letter by the deadline, you risk having the course re-assigned to someone else. Assignment to each course in our Banner registration system, as well as pay for teaching the course will be based on the returned letters we receive. (In the past, adjuncts who were assigned courses but who did not always return their signed letters were still paid to teach those courses. This will no longer be the case).
Additionally, the wording and appearance of the letter has changed. Please take some time to review the letter and to understand what is expected of you before you sign and return it. Once the letter is received back from you, you will receive a copy for your records. The original will be housed in the Human Resources office and the Payroll Clerk will be provided a copy, from which your pay will be based. If you teach for the Outreach Department, you will also need to submit a timesheet.
If you have any questions about this process or reasons behind the change, please let me know.
Sincerely,
