Goal IV. Enhance and Strengthen the Learning Process through Curricular and Pedagogical Reforms

Goal IV – Curricular and Pedagogical Reform

Task E. Research and Develop a Certificate of General Studies credential and curriculum, and shepherd it through the approval process for implementation.

Purpose
Milestones are key components to recognizing interim measures of student success. Students who earn a sufficient breadth of general studies coursework deserve a recognized credential for their success, as they proceed to other certificates and/or degrees.

StrategyProgress: Develop certificate, 100 percent. Submit to curriculum committee, 100 percent. Approved by MT Board of Regents, 100 percent. Submit to NWCCU, 50 percent.
The team’s primary strategy is to identify the courses which would be acceptable for this credential and prepare and submit the appropriate documentation to the MSU-Great Falls Curriculum Committee and MT Board of Regents for approval. The final step is to submit a prospectus of the change to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Timeline
The certificate was developed early in Fall 2011 and was submitted to and approved by the MSU-GF curriculum committee. A Level II Request will be submitted to the Montana Board of Regents for their consideration at the January 2012 meeting.  The Board will vote on the Level II at the March meeting.
