Goal III. Strengthen Student Support Services and Programs
Task A. Catalyzed by the establishment of a new advising center, redesign the advising process so that it is intrusive, streamlined, and personalized. The new advising process should be designed to utilize all campus resources, including faculty, as well as be tied to a student early alert system.
Purpose
CAB is working to redesign campus advising to include all campus resources and to set up systems to respond quickly and appropriately to students who are at risk of developing academic problems.
Strategy
The CAB team is developing an advising syllabus that will outline its mission, values, expectation, learning outcomes and responsibilities. A key strategy will include a communication system (alerts, referrals) for faculty and staff to identify students who are at risk, get them to the proper resources, then provide feedback about the outcomes to all involved. The team also will be developing plans (SAP) for students on academic probation and those on financial aid suspension.
Timeline
The CAB team began in Fall 2011 by developing an advising syllabus to guide its efforts and to set up an assessment procedure to allow the team to evaluate the effectiveness of its efforts. Specific groups on the team will work during Spring 2012 to develop the alert/referral system and SAPs. Full implementation is expected for Fall 2012.
